How do you fix a small, matted down area of felt on a pool table without refelting?

I have several small ‘nicks’ in the felt of my new pool table, and was told they could be removed with a brush. So far, I haven’t had any luck removing them. Is there any other way to remove these small nicks to get the table looking like new again without having to re-felt it?

there are kits you can buy, but it is a long and tedious process,
using a brush works well - try moistening the brush beforehand.
the chances of it looking new are slim to none (depending on how bad the nicks and scrapes are).
ON A SIDE NOTE: felt does wear out - nicks and scrapes help enduce the wear by 300% in those areas. so its possible that they cannot be conventionally fixed.
