Top Tips To Play Better Pool

Alex Stacey asked:

If you have ever watched professional pool, whether it be on television or at a pool hall, you have probably realized that the pros have strategies that they used in order to gain a lead in the game.

In order to play a successful game of pool, billiards, or snooker, there are a few things you might want to know before hand. Even if you aren’t the best pool player, here are some helpful hints that can help to improve your game and hopefully have you on the road to a successful game of pool.

Tangent Line

The tangent line is the direction that the cue ball will go in after it hits the object ball. You want to know the tangent line so that you can improve where the cue ball will be for your next shot. You most definitely want to avoid scratches. To determine the tangent line, imagine a cross.

Draw a line through the center of the ball and then through the center of the object ball and then to the center of the pocket. Then draw a line through the first line in the shape of cross. The line should go through the ball and then the rail. This path, also known as the tangent line is the path that your cue ball will take.

Bank Shots

When you make a bank shot, you want the ball to leave the rail at the exact angle that it goes into the rail. To think about this, make a V. When you bank a ball, you want to make sure that the V you make is perfect. When you bank a ball to the left, use a little bit of a right English, and vice versa.

Defense Play

Just like in all sports, defense play is very important. With pool, defense is just as important as making the correct shots. You need to analyze whether you are shooting well or if you are a bit off. Then you have to analyze how your opponent is shooting. If you are having a bad night or your opponent is really good, you can snap into defense mode.

This means that making it harder for your opponent to score. Hide the cue ball. Hit other balls into your opponent’s ball to take it away from a pocket. Shoot into a cluster of balls. Whatever you can do to make it harder for your opponent, do it.

Straight in shots

Straight in shots sometimes give pool players issues. Think about the speed and angle that you need to shoot at before you make the shot. If you shoot high, the cue ball will follow. If you shot low, the cue ball will stop or move backwards. It is only good to center shot when the object ball is near the cue ball.

These are just a few hints and tips for you to use when shooting pool. Remember, if you want to improve your skill, do a little bit of research, or watch pros play a few rounds. You are sure to get better in no time. Before you know it, you’ll be a star at the pool hall.

How do you resurface an outdoor pool table?

Saturday, January 10th, 2009
Jeremy S asked:

My parents gave me an outdoor pool table that has 2 scratches in the vinyl that covers the top. I’ve asked around MANY different places where I live and no one seems to do this kind of work. I guess I have to do it myself. I’m fine with that, but I have no idea where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated.

jhc448 asked:

I am going to buy a pre put together pool table. It will be shipped to my house and i will dissemble it there. Will the parts that i take off the pool table be enough to fit through doorways and down stairs? Also is a normal pool table usually able to be taken apart?
