Slate Pool Tables - Why You Should Get yourself One

Saturday, November 28th, 2009
Davi db asked:

There are quite a few reasons to purchase slate pool tables rather than a furniture or regular pool table. Slate pool tables last a lot longer than all others. They are sturdy enough not to get messed up and to hold well, but are just the right size to be on the second floor of a building. A Slate table’s quality is always at the top. That is everyone’s concern in the beginning. Am I paying too much? What is this made of? Will it rot if it goes out side? All of these questions will be answered below. There will never be a time when you will be able to find a pool table with any better quality for your money than a Slate pool table. Everyone deserves a Slate pool table.

Paying too much

Some pool table companies sell a lot of expensive pool tables that shouldn’t even be sold for two hundred dollars, but with Slate pool tables you know you are getting a good deal. They are well sold all over the United States. Not only that, but the shop that you purchase your Slate pool table from will be more than happy to help you out and come to your home to assemble your pool table. Whether it’s a coin Slate pool table or a regular Slate pool table you always get a good deal. In other words, if you ever come across a Slate pool table purchase it while you can, because you may not see it again. There are stores all over the United States that sell Slate pool tables, and the staff would be more than happy to let you know why you are paying so much for an entertainment piece.

What is it made of?

More than likely the Slate of your pool table will be made up of clay and other high quality products that will never mold. Along with flexible materials, and many other non static product. Other pool tables though do not always use such great material when producing their Slate for the pool table. Another thing used to make a Slate pool table is quality wood. If it’s not quality, then there is a chance it could mold on you. Which would just cause a mess, and cost you tons of money too not only buy a new one but to get your house sprayed. Or better yet your concrete outside.

Entertainment

If you have never had a pool table before and are concerned about which brand to go with then you should look into a Slate pool table because they are only made with the finest products, are simple to clean, the only supplies you need are an edge razor and Goof Off. Most families own a pool table for entertainment, which is a great reason, but others own as a source to show their friends a good time. Sometimes the pool hall may be crowded, or stuffy with all the smokers and such, so coming home to your smoke free or alcohol free house to your very own Slate pool table would be wonderful.

Can I use wood instead of slate for pool tables? Any advantages/disadvantages?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009
Joey B asked:

I want to build by own pool table but I want it to be easily movable, which is why I don’t want to use slate. Is there any problem with using a lighter material that is as smooth (e.g. wood, carbon fiber, fiberglass)?
You say fiberglass would be too light, and that a light table isn’t worth playing on, can you elaborate as to why? if its as smooth, using rocks as oppose to a lighter more modern material seems the logical progression of the game…

Table Tennis Conversion Top

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009
table tennis asked:

A play of the table tennis has different parts which you should really understand, before you know the play. Apart from the table a ball, the net, the racquets, a conversion height is another part which is present at stake of the table tennis. Now what this is and where is he localised? Well…a table tennis conversion top is basically that part, which lies on the table of the table tennis. The conversion height is that the serving if the table tennis is played if the heavy and unwieldy legs (the stripe of these things and the Remanent depart is your conversion height). A conversion height can be fastened on a level surface, so that you can play any point. The conversion height fits very much to the families which live in the small houses. In the majority time these families run before the space a little to go up the table of normal stench of the ringing.

They can also “go up” a table tennis conversion top in a ‘play piece’ this has, hurries up with the space; fetch the tables of the space-using like the map just as the tables of the swimming-pool. Generally this is available in one of such size which would go on any table of normal swimming-pool with the light distance and the installation firmly like and if demanded. If you have decided, you should as consider a conversion height for the personal use, above all to shop, the height as the size of the table of the swimming-pool. They should also look at the other tables which you have in your house, while you buy the conversion height. However, is a very common disadvantage of conversion of the table tennis that many players are the opinion which can deliver the height of the conversion of the table tennis no real petrol of sport of the table tennis. So you should look at this factor if you take the table tennis to play severely. The conversion height is quite effective for the children and the families them want to use it on an occasional base and are not accustomed.

Bumper Pool a game for all times

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009
Alan Wilson asked:

During the 1500’s there were many games that were created to pass the time. Most of the games chosen were outdoor games also known as lawn games. One game that was created as an indoor game was bumper pool. It is believed, that bumper pool is a table version of the game croquet. Like croquet, in bumper pool your goal is to get your ball to the other side of the field before your opponent. The game of course has obstacles in which you have to get by and then on to the finishing line. As with bumper pool you have obstacles in which you must get around and in the end get to the finish line at your opponents side of the table.

The game of bumper pool originated in Europe and is known to be played mostly in France. The bumper pool table is shorter than a standard billiards table, this helps with those wanting to enjoy a table game but don’t have enough space for a standard size table. Although the game of bumper pool is more commonly found in Europe, it is not uncommon to find the game among the New England states. Many people will call the game Snooker, which is actually a different game but also played on smaller tables like bumper pool. Although the game of bumper pool has not picked up in popularity like that of standard billiards and the game snooker, it is still equally enjoyed by many people.

Now that the history of billiards has been explained it is time to delve into the meet of the subject of bumper pool. No one is quite sure who developed the concept of bumper pool or when. It is still one game that has a lot of hidden mysteries to discover.

A bumper pool table can come in different sizes to fit almost any space for those who want to enjoy a game of billiards. The playing field of the bumper pool tables consists of 2 pockets and between 12 and 16 bumpers. The number of bumpers is determined by the size of the table. For the smaller tables there are 8 bumpers in the middle and then 2 on each side of the pockets.. As the tables become larger, you have more bumpers added to guard the pockets. There are a total of 10 balls used in the game of bumper pool, you have 5 red and 5 white. One ball of each color is marked with a spot in the opposite color. This is typically the ball in which is used to start the game.

The bumper pool tables can be found in two different shapes. Many people may think that the standard rectangle is all that can be found. This is not so you can also find the bumper pool found in an octagon shaped table. This style of table is typically found with another game. The popular game of poker is the top portion of the octagon tables. The tops can be found in different variations from a felted or leather top to a nice wood finish. You can find pockets carved into the tops for poker chips and cards to be held. When the top is lifted you find the surprise, bumper pool.

To play a game of Bumper Pool each player takes a turn at making an initial shot into their opponents pocket. If someone makes a shot then that person starts the game. Turns alternate from there. Typically, most bumper pool tables come with a set of instructions to help beginners get a full understanding of how the game should be played.

Cheap Pool Tables - What Everyone Ought To Know

Saturday, November 21st, 2009
Nicky Meintjies asked:

Most people would love to buy a pool table however; they often get deterred due to the fairly steep prices of pool tables. But you don’t have to always shell out a mountain for your pool table. There are many places where you could buy a cheap pool table at competitive and affordable rates. But just because the prices are low doesn’t mean that the quality is low too. So for those of you who thought that getting a pool table simply wouldn’t fit into your budget, think again and read on.

The things that you need to keep in mind before you buy a pool table are the features that you are looking for. Usually when you walk into a sports good store with the intention of buying a pool table, the friendly salesman will be more than happy to help you make your choice. But remember: a sports goods salesman is rarely any different from a car sales man and they will both try to sell you things, which you don’t really need. So before you pay a few hundred dollars more for hand carved legs, try to analyze if this feature is really important to you. If you are going to use the table at home then looks should come second to the durability and usability.

Needless to say, the sales person will be more concerned about his commission and the profit that the store will make from the sale of a pool table. So instead of going to the retail store, try to see if you can directly talk to the dealer. This should bring the price down substantially and you just might find a cheap pool table right there. You can either check the local yellow pages for a dealer in your city or shop online. But if you are shopping online, never forget to inquire about the shipping costs, return policies and warranty. This is very important for if something had to go wrong with your pool table in the future. Also keep in mind that the weight of the pool table can also influence the price a lot when it comes to the shipping.

If you intend to use the pool table at home, you don’t have to go for the larger versions. A mid sized version starting at 7 ft and going up to 9 ft will be equally good and more cost effective. The smaller size makes them perfect for people who don’t have a lot of space in their house to accommodate the table but just because they are small doesn’t mean that you will have less fun using it. You don’t always have to pick the first pool table that you like; try to check out the other models in different shops before you single one out.

If buying a brand new table simply isn’t something that you can afford fret not! You can always go for a used pool table, which will usually be at a fraction of the cost of a new table. Sellers may be disposing off their pool tables for various reasons. Maybe they need the money or maybe they just want to create some more space in their house. Either way, this should give you a bargaining advantage. You can look for pool tables online through one of the auction sites or check out the newspaper for individuals or businesses that want to sell their pool tables. If you find an establishment, which is going out of business and wants to sell its assets including pool tables.

Cheap pool tables are not that hard to find. The whole idea of getting your hands on one is just to follow the right procedures and shop around. Soon you will be the owner of a pool table that you got for a bargain price.

Billiard Pool Balls

Saturday, November 14th, 2009
Nicky Meintjies asked:

The arrangement of billiard balls on the green bed of a pool table just before the break shot is sheer beauty. No other ball game offers so much color and variety as billiards does. In the game of Carom, a type of billiards played without pockets on the table, only three balls are used. One is a red ball and the other two are white balls with one of the white balls marked with a black dot. Sometimes a yellow ball is used instead of a white ball. The red ball is known as the “object ball”. The white ball is the “cue ball” for the first player. The yellow or the dotted white ball is the cue ball of the second player.

Billiard balls are also popularly known as “pool balls” because the game of pocket billiard is popular in the USA as “pool”. Pool balls are the snazziest of all billiard balls. Billiard halls prefer pool balls for the vibrant range of colors they come in. Yellow, blue, red, orange, purple, burgundy, green, black, and a combination of red and white, blue and white, yellow and white, orange and white, and purple and white - all these are the possible colors of billiard balls. They stand in good contrast to the green turf of the table.

When it comes to Billiard balls, you will find that there is a variety of differences between some of them. The obvious one is the difference in colour and stripes. Then there is the weight. While your average player will not even notice this, you can expect a professional pool player to notice not only the weight but the improvement that this factor makes to their playing. As your playing improves, you will also find that this makes quite of a big difference when playing the game.

Each pool ball also carries a number. Carom balls are not numbered. The balls with single colors are called solids and the others with two colors are called stripes. For instance, the yellow ball is number one, the blue and white ball is number ten and the green and white balls is number fourteen. Carom balls are slightly bigger than the pool balls. Training billiard balls are marked with target rings making it possible for the novice player to judge better about at which angle the ball needs to be struck.

When not in play billiard balls are kept in a ball rack. Billiard balls stay on the table until the end in a game of carom. In a game of pocket billiards the balls that fall in to the pockets are lead through the troughs and are collected to be in to play again. The earliest billiard balls were made up of wood and clay balls. Those that could afford it played with ivory balls. These days high quality billiard balls are made to withstand strong shots without chipping and cracking. Most billiard balls available in the market are made of Phenolin resin or polyester and acrylic.

Characters of great Pool Players

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009
Angela Sebree asked:

Characters of great Pool Players

The Will to Practice

The Guts to Compete

The Desire to be the Best

These are the characters of great Pool Players!

Practice on a regular basis is sometimes hard to obtain depending on what is going on in your life. I’ve found if I play on a league - I will practice more. Having that commitment to be at the pool room every week is sometimes a hard choice to make. Of course there is always an excuse I could make but why? I love to play pool… So I must have the will to practice…

Competition in league play is great but why stop there. Some of the best competition is playing in a local pool tournament. Yes, there is an entry fee (money well spent) not to mention you may get a chance to play some of the best players out there… You may or may not win your matches but you will learn a lot in the process. Also a friendly money game is good for your focus - you don’t have to play for $1,000 per set.. Sometimes a few dollars a game will do. You must have the Guts to compete.

Desire is a big word in many ways. Do you want to be the best? If so, what are you doing about it? How big is your desire? Great players are like sponges, soaking up every bit of information out there. They study the table, the shots and the players, learning little tips along the way. Most great players also keep a notebook with notes about shots, safety’s and evaluations on the players they’ve played or observed - You may not know where your game is deficient but other players do. Great players know that knowledge is power and they have a desire to be the best. What is your desire?

character is what one is; reputation is what one is thought to be by others
